The main headquarters of Casa Mediterráneo is located in Alicante, and will soon occupy the emblematic building of the old Benalúa station, situated near the Port of Alicante.
This institution, integrated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, was created with the aim of encouraging relations and giving cohesion to cultures and societies of the countries located on both sides of the Mediterranean, as a meeting point for Europe, Africa and Asia.
Casa Mediterráneo promotes social, cultural, politic, economic, scientific, educational and human rapprochement among the different societies, cultures and peoples of the Mediterranean region, having citizens as their main actors in all its activities.
Casa Mediterráneo attempts to give value to Mediterranean identity by bringing the reality of the coastal countries closer to Spanish public opinion, social agents, universities with their academicians and experts, businessmen and citizens in general, showing them the immense human, intellectual and artistic wealth we share in the Mediterranean.
OFFICE OF HARMONIZATION FOR THE INTERNAL MARKET (OHIM).
In 1993, Alicante was designated as a seat for the European Union Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market.
The Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market (OHIM) is the official office of trademarks, designs and models of the European Union, offering protection throughout the European Union, which has 27 member States and a population of about 500 million people. The Office also works in close collaboration with the national offices of industrial property of the EU member States.
The OHIM has a staff of approximately 700 employees, and an annual income of over 180 million Euros.
Alicante is also a seat for the European Court of Trademarks.
CIUDAD DE LA LUZ (CITY OF THE LIGHT)
The most modern film studio in Europe has large areas for the shooting of movies, TV programs and advertisements, as well as advanced audiovisual production services, incorporating all the necessary media and facilities for the development of cinematographic and audiovisual productions in all their phases.

VOLVO OCEAN RACE: STARTING PORT AND PERMANENT VENUE
Since 2009, Alicante is the starting port of the Volvo Ocean Race, (sailing boat team race around the world) one of the main sport events in the world.
Furthermore, since 2010, Alicante has become the permanent seat for the organization of this regatta, as well as an Interactive Museum of the Volvo Ocean Race.
During the 2011 regatta, the city received more than 200,000 visits. The official start, presided over by H.R.H. the Prince of Asturias, was seen by nearly 60,000 people from different points of the Alicante shore (Port, Postiguet Beach, Albufereta and Paseo Volado).
